Porter County board approves community classes, claims and letter supporting farmers market program

A presenter from PCACS asked the board to continue the chair-yoga classes that have grown in attendance and yielded “a lot of success stories,” including improved mobility and lab results for some participants, the presenter said. After questions about prior funding levels and program participation, the motion to continue the PCA chair-yoga class was made and approved by voice vote; members present registered their support.
The board also approved claims and receipts and heard a multi-vendor recap of the county’s third annual health and wellness fair (see separate article). Later, the board considered a request from the Northwest Indiana Food Council to partner on marketing an expanded Market Mama program that provides eligible SNAP shoppers an additional voucher for fresh foods and nutrition education. The board voted to provide a letter of support; the presenter said the program requires vendor participation and asks for no county funding.
