During the staff report, Redevelopment Commission staff provided several community and economic-development updates.
Staff member Anne announced a groundbreaking for USCO Industries this Thursday at 11 a.m. at 5009 Calumet Avenue and said the event will include speakers such as Mayor McDermott, a representative from the governor's office and local chamber leaders. She invited commissioners and the public to attend.
Anne also reported that a live auction on June 25 sold 28 parcels at Memorial Park and said the average sale price for those lots was around $35,000; staff has received draft purchase agreements and expects redevelopment activities and groundbreakings in the area later this year. Anne noted a new downtown business, Big O's Barbecue and Catering at 5252 Homan Avenue, and reminded the commission that the Festival of the Lakes begins next Wednesday and runs through Sunday the 19th.
These updates were informational; no policy votes were attached to the announcements. Staff asked commissioners to contact the mayor's office or staff for event details.
