Board of Equalization approves motor-vehicle tax exemptions; resident raises traffic and noise concerns

The Buffalo County Board of Equalization approved motor-vehicle tax exemption renewals for Catholic High School of Kearney, Evangelical Wesleyan Church and Good Samaritan Hospital (one abstention). The Board of Equalization met as part of the Buffalo County meeting on June 23 and approved motor-vehicle tax exemption renewals submitted by County Treasurer Brenda Rohrich. On a motion by Commissioner Bill Maendele and seconded by Commissioner Daniel Lynch the board approved exemptions for Catholic High School of Kearney covering a 2002 Blue Bird LTC40 bus, a 2013 GMC Yukon XL, a 2014 enclosed trailer, a 2016 Chevy Suburban and a 2023 Ford Expedition Max XLT 4x4.
The board also approved a motor-vehicle tax exemption renewal for Evangelical Wesleyan Church (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan) on a motion by Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz, seconded by Commissioner Daniel Lynch. A separate exemption renewal for Good Samaritan Hospital (2017 Chevy Express G4500) was approved on a motion by Commissioner Ivan Klein, seconded by Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz; the vote recorded an abstention by Commissioner Bill Maendele and otherwise carried with six aye votes.
Following the Board of Equalization business, Acting Chairperson Bill Maendele called Citizen’s Forum. Resident Amanda Majer addressed the board to raise traffic and noise concerns affecting property near her home; no other citizens spoke during the forum. The regular meeting then reconvened and adjourned.
