Union City Council approves park and stormwater contracts, adopts broadband resolution

The council voted unanimously to accept Mansfield's $5,000 quote to repair and reconnect pipe at a sinkhole in Municipal Lot No. 1, with the borough providing pipe and fittings estimated at $5,000. Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported ongoing investigation into stormwater-sanitarty cross-connections, saying, "It is getting into the sanitary lines that go to Municipal Lot #1," and arranged camera inspections to map the problem.
Councilors also awarded the Devereaux Park/French Creek Trail project to Vavala Concrete, the low bidder at $84,774; that motion passed unanimously. The council accepted the Secretary’s Report, approved unpaid bills, and approved minutes from the July 9 meeting by unanimous votes.
Solicitor Wachter recommended clarifying language on anonymous requests in the borough's Right-to-Know Rules and Regulations. Councilor Osborn moved to adopt the recommended update; Councilor Steadman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Earlier in the evening a public meeting on the borough's Broadband Ready Community application drew no members of the public. Council moved to adopt a resolution authorizing application to the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) for Broadband Ready Community designation and appointing the Erie Area Council of Governments as the borough’s municipal broadband champion; that measure passed unanimously.
