Earlham departments report calls, training, wastewater grant and staffing needs

Fire Chief Shawn Boyle said Earlham Fire responded to 105 calls for service in 2025, that the department has 17 members and recorded 683 total responses; average staffing was about seven firefighters per response and the department logged 485 hours of training last year. Boyle also reported the department purchased a 2,000‑gallon tanker, bringing the fleet to five apparatus.
Rescue Captain Blake Boyle reported Earlham Rescue handled 181 calls in 2025, with 170 calls at the Advanced EMT level and 11 at the EMT level, and a roster of 12 members. Blake Boyle said the rescue service has a new online training platform and is exploring participation in a Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) as a retirement benefit for long‑serving members; council will need to develop implementation guidelines if the program is pursued.
Police Chief Matt Stringham said the department participated in Shop with a Cop and Christmas Share programs and is awaiting a federal grant of about $20,000 that is currently tied up in a court case.
Public Works Supervisor Gary Coffman reported snow‑removal and tree‑removal activities, ongoing pothole repairs, and announced that the city has received a wastewater grant to be applied toward phase two of the lagoon project.
Council did not take direct action on department reports but recorded them for the official minutes.
