Adele Taplin, the town's economic and community development official, said the grant is for $40,000, the town previously approved a $10,000 match and the proposal requires an additional appropriation of $14,877 to reach the contract amount of $64,877. Mason Kummer, a VTrans traffic engineer and town resident, urged the board to view the scoping study as a long-term safety and economic investment.
The study's scope includes crossings at Portland, Pleasant and Congress Streets, review of multi-leg geometry, traffic-calming options and considerations for environmental and right-of-way issues. The board approved the contract award and appropriation and directed staff to execute the contract.
