Select board backs outdoor sculpture show and a student-led arts festival

The Morristown Select Board unanimously approved two arts initiatives aimed at downtown beautification and community engagement: an inaugural outdoor sculpture show (MOSA) for late summer/fall and continued planning for a spring 2027 Morrisville Arts Festival led by local arts organizer April McDowell.
Carol Lauber presented the MOSA concept and introduced Sailor Revels, the contracted curator. Revels said the soft opening will feature 3 to 5 sculptures sited around downtown, with an opening reception timed to a music event at Oxbow Park. "We're starting out small with 3 to 5 sculptures...the kiosk down by the rail trail will be an introductory point," Sailor said. The board discussed insurance, installation logistics, and how permanent public art in town would be cataloged on a map and web page.
April McDowell told the board she was selected as a Roland Fellow and has funding to cover about half of artist costs for a student-artist collaboration at People's Academy; sponsors will cover remaining costs. She described student participation in design and installation and said the festival would include panels, music and food trucks. "This is about intergenerational experience and creative minds coming together," McDowell said.
Both items were approved: MOSA as an exhibit with an August 12 opening window (installation week beginning Aug. 5) and board support for McDowell to continue planning the 2027 festival with town staff and MAC (Morrisville Alliance for Culture and Commerce).
