At a single meeting the Santa Paula Unified board approved a package of contracts and personnel items intended to support special education, technology infrastructure and program expansion.
Contracts: The board approved a contract with Espiranet for collaborative special education services for the 2025–26 school year and a Bridging Voices agreement to provide interpretation and translation services (used for IEPs and formal documents), described as “up to $300,000” for the year; trustees asked whether some translation work could be brought in-house and requested a cost comparison. The board also approved agreements with the Ventura County Office of Education for extended school year services and paraprofessional support for students who attend county programs; these contracts reflect increased staff needs and excess-cost billing practices.
Technology and operations: The board approved a one-year hosting agreement for the district’s Q student information systems (Q Sys) and a two-year voice-over-IP contract with GoToConnect; staff reported savings by reclassifying high-usage accounts to low-usage accounts, yielding estimated two-year savings of about $78,000 in the phone contract.
Personnel and labor: Human resources presented several job descriptions and personnel actions. The board approved job descriptions for a music and art teacher and a community schools coordinator (grant-funded), established 12 campus supervision assistant positions (one hour per day at elementary sites) funded through ELOP for early-start coverage, and added one special-education instructional assistant at Blanchard (5.75 hours). It also approved a CTE building-and-construction teacher job description tied to a new CTE program; trustees passed an MOU with the Santa Paula Federation of Teachers that creates a CTE credential salary schedule and a tentative successor agreement with CSEA chapter 891 aligning compensation and fringe benefits with teachers' MOU. Trustees discussed grant contingencies and required posting language for grant-funded positions.
