At the April 6 meeting the commission recognized the Brady Hunter Foundation for a donation that expands the Hollywood Police Department's K-9 unit. Detective Danny D'Andrade, the department's public information officer, described the donation and said the dog will be used for apprehension, tracking, detection and community engagement. Foundation representatives said the K-9 was donated in memory of the founder's dog and described ongoing foundation work supporting animals and children.
Later in the meeting, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz accepted a proclamation recognizing Jewish American Heritage Month and the 78th anniversary of the State of Israel's independence. The congresswoman noted she sponsored the federal recognition when she first entered Congress and praised local intercommunity events; she also joined commissioners in remarks remembering Nancy Mateer, whose death was recognized at the start of the meeting.
Commissioners and attendees took photos and offered thanks to the foundation and to the congresswoman. The presentations were ceremonial; no formal policy action was required for the donation recognition or the proclamation.
