Cary board approves temporary road closure for Cary Barber Shop summer barbecue

The Village of Cary board on July 7 approved a temporary closure of the southern 150 feet of Spring Street between West Main and Cary Street for a Cary Barber Shop summer barbecue on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, contingent on final approval by the Community Development Director and required property and public-health permits.
Community Development staff presented a revised layout that moves a food truck onto private property to preserve fire-lane access, noted coordination with landlords and the McHenry County Health Department, and said written property-owner approvals will be required before final sign-off.
Hannah, the barber-shop owner, described the event as a community-building effort that could include a chili cook-off, chess tournament and food service; she said she is seeking written approvals from a collaborating property owner and is flexible to adjust the plan to meet safety requirements.
The board voted by roll call to approve the closure and event, with staff to finalize arrangements and ensure health and safety requirements are met.
