Water and Sewer advisory committee updates board on wastewater options; West Swanzey plant tour set for April 23
Summary
The Water and Sewer Advisory Committee reported options under study — piping to Keene (estimated about $16 million), building an activated-sludge plant (roughly $26 million), or other alternatives such as clarifiers or land application — and scheduled a tour of the West Swanzey treatment plant on April 23 as part of ongoing review.

At the April 9 meeting the Planning Board received an update from a member of the Water and Sewer Advisory Committee on options under consideration for the town's wastewater system.
The committee is evaluating alternatives including building a new activated-sludge treatment plant (estimated in the tens of millions) or piping wastewater to Keene (estimates discussed in the meeting were roughly $16 million to pipe to Keene and about $26 million to build a new plant). Committee members said they were also reviewing lower-cost alternatives such as clarifiers at the existing plant or land-application approaches and are gathering cost figures for comparison.
The committee plans a follow-up meeting on April 23 and will tour the West Swanzey treatment plant that day so members can see the facility and better assess potential improvements. The board also noted a Keene wastewater open house scheduled for April 16, which interested members said they may attend.
Next steps: The committee will continue to collect cost estimates and technical information and report back to the board; members emphasized that further engineering analysis and permits will be required before any decision is made.
