Public Works reported the unit failed in mid-November and said the previously approved equipment package did not meet the plant’s needs. The director recommended rescinding the earlier resolution and approving a replacement washer compactor assembly from Hydrokinetics for $22,862, which would perform separation of inorganic solids, plastic and other debris at the headworks.
"The washer compactor failed just a few weeks ago in mid November. The cause was due to a greaser being hidden by an electrical junction box," the Public Works representative said, explaining why the replacement is necessary and why the prior purchase was being rescinded.
A council member moved the resolution and it was seconded. The council approved the resolution by roll call; members voiced assent and the motion carried. The purchase was presented as fitting within the current budget, and staff said they would return with a revised request for a separate escalator unit at a later date.
No further amendments to the purchase were made during the meeting. The council’s approval authorizes the Public Works department to complete the purchase and proceed with necessary installations to restore the headworks' screening function.
