Council approves $11,928 change order for Second Street project; state to cover 75%

The council approved Resolution No. 046 on June 22 to authorize change order No. 1 for the Second Street and Two Line Street concrete pavement replacement contract with Skyplex Trucking LLC.
City Engineer Nick Verrett explained that review of shop drawings revealed the originally planned catch‑basin details would leave insufficient cover over existing storm pipes. To construct workable drainage connections the plans require different catch‑basin types and adjustments to pipe sizes and tie‑in work. Verrett said the change order totals $11,928; the state has approved and will pay 75% of that amount (about $8,900), leaving the city’s contribution at roughly $2,982.
Verrett described technical work including breaking into existing structures, grouting and pouring collars so new storm lines tie correctly to the existing system. He said the contract contains 210 calendar days (about seven months) but the contractor has incentive to complete work earlier; the project will be phased to reduce disruption to festivals and community events.
The council voted by roll call to adopt the resolution; the mayor and staff said some short closures would be necessary while work is underway.
