Ashland aldermen adopt transportation master plan, approve sheriff training agreement and sewer-equipment purchase; table three ordinances

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Ashland voted to adopt a transportation master plan, authorized a continuing law enforcement education agreement with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and approved a not-to-exceed $39,467.22 purchase of wastewater-plant parts during its regular meeting.

The board also voted to table three pending ordinances: Ordinance No. 1538 (annexation of unincorporated area), Ordinance No. 1539 (rezoning of partial land from A-1 to R-1) and Ordinance No. 1540 (Founders Ridge plat 2). Staff said delays were due to an absent new property owner who had not signed required documents and incomplete infrastructure at Founders Ridge.

Why it matters Adopting the transportation master plan gives the city a prioritized, multimodal blueprint and a budget schedule intended to preserve and upgrade streets while positioning Ashland to leverage state and federal funding for larger projects. Approving the training agreement secures a local training option for police at a modest per-officer cost after an initial free year. The wastewater-parts approval aims to restore a piece of equipment that has required staff to perform manual workarounds and to reduce reliance on a lengthy OEM lead time.

What’s next Staff said it will add the training-contract costs to next year’s budget, proceed with the sewer repairs under the approved not-to-exceed amount and begin implementing the near-term maintenance recommendations in the transportation plan.
