Board hears finance report; committee flags wheelchair bus, electric buses and possible Eagle Academy relocation

The Egg Harbor Township Board of Education’s finance and operations committee reported at the May 2025 meeting on transportation staffing, fleet upgrades and facility planning that could affect the Eagle Academy program.

Mr. Price, the finance committee presenter, summarized a May 6 committee meeting that covered the search for a transportation director, plans to purchase a wheelchair-accessible bus, and exploration of electric school buses. The committee also reviewed Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) administration for school meals and outlined a preliminary referendum project list. Mr. Price said facilities staff reviewed a potential project to relocate the Eagle Academy program and that multiple relocation options — relocating within an existing district building or off-site — are being considered.

Board members asked clarifying questions about Eagle Academy’s building options. One board member asked what the options were for the Bargain Town school building once the program leaves; the response indicated the district would decide how to repurpose the building after program relocation.

The board approved finance items on the agenda. A recorded roll call on finance item 8.2 showed a recorded abstention by Mr. Ireland; the remaining listed finance items (8.3–8.22) were approved by roll call. The committee recommended moving forward with the action items discussed, and staff noted additional bids and grant awards to be brought to the June agenda.

Next steps: the committee will meet again June 10 at the board office to continue planning, and staff will provide further options and cost estimates for the Eagle Academy relocation and transportation purchases.
