Spokane council confirms accounting director, accepts neighborhood grant and amends corridor contract

Councilmember Michael Cathcart, the city council representative for District 1, said the Spokane City Council at this week’s meeting confirmed the appointment of Joshua Lipps as the city’s accounting director.
The council also accepted funding from the US Council of Mayors, in collaboration with the Northeast Community Center, for a healthy-and-sustainable grant program aimed at youth engagement in Northeast Spokane, Cathcart said.
Cathcart said the council adopted an amendment to a contract with the contractor Dowell to allow changes on the Maple and Ash Street corridor. He described Dowell as a contractor the city has used previously and said the amendment was adopted by the council.
The meeting also included adoption of an alley vacation affecting the alley between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, from Monroe to Lincoln, and other routine items.
