Solano County Supervisor Mitch Masper praises Travis Unified staff and says Mark V. Road earmark will provide $250,000

Solano County Supervisor Mitch Masper thanked Travis Unified School District employees and families at a board meeting, and said a congressional earmark intended for Mark V. Road is now expected to provide $250,000.

"I just spoke to his staff today, and it will be going through for $250,000," Masper said, describing how an earlier federal request had been reduced through the legislative process. Masper told the board he will continue working with the Solano Transportation Authority, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the city of Fairfield to find local funds to complete work so students have a safe route to school.

Masper framed his remarks as both praise and a status update. He said constituents often mistakenly contact the county board when they have school issues, and he asked residents to contact the school board for education matters. He also highlighted the district's service to military communities: "You are the 1 school that I know of who can actually brag that you are a national defense asset," he said, thanking teachers and support staff.

Masper summarized the funding trajectory he described: a congressional request sought $1,000,000, the amount was reduced in subsequent stages, and the most recent update from the congressman's staff indicated $250,000 would move forward. He did not provide a project schedule or a formal funding commitment beyond that federal update; the board did not take a formal vote on project funding during the meeting.

The remarks were presented during a recognition portion of the board's agenda and were welcomed by Chair Badu. Masper did not specify which project phases would be covered by the earmark or a timeline for local matching funds. He said he expects to continue discussions with regional transportation bodies and the city of Fairfield to secure additional resources.
