Berkeley Heights board holds executive session for superintendent interviews, returns to public and adjourns

The Berkeley Heights Board of Education convened a special meeting and voted to move into executive session to conduct superintendent interviews in conjunction with the NJSBA, the board president said.

Board President said the executive session would address matters permitted under the Open Public Meetings Act, including personnel and attorney-client matters, and that minutes from the closed session would be released when confidentiality no longer applied. The president told attendees the board expected the session to last "approximately three and a half hours."

The board completed a voice vote to enter executive session and recorded the time at about 6:10 p.m. The meeting later returned to public session the same evening; the transcript records a return time around 10:18 p.m. During the public comment period the president read the rules for speakers — including a three-minute limit and the request that speakers state their name and town or school — and noted no one was present in person before asking the board secretary whether there were online participants.

With no public commenters in the chamber and no further business, the board approved a motion to adjourn and closed the meeting at 10:19 p.m.

The only formal actions recorded in the transcript were motions to enter executive session, to return to public session, and to adjourn; each was approved by voice vote.
