The Eagle Township Board adopted a moratorium on data-center permits during its Feb. 17 meeting at township hall, voting unanimously to pause issuance of permits, licenses and approvals for data centers while the Planning Commission studies how the uses should be handled in local zoning.
The motion to adopt Resolution 02-17-2026-06 was made by Clerk Laurie Briggs-Dudley and supported by Trustee Michelle Hoppes; roll-call votes recorded Trustees Rob Currie and Michelle Hoppes, Clerk Briggs-Dudley, Treasurer Chelsea Hoppes and Supervisor Troy Stroud in favor. No board member voted no.
The move follows Planning Commission work already under way: Trustee Rob Currie reported the commission is finishing a section-by-section review of the Interim Zoning Ordinance and will assemble a redline version for review. The Planning Commission will begin a study of data centers to recommend how the township should regulate such uses in the IZO. The board recorded McKenna’s proposal for fees to allow pre-application meetings with applicants as part of that zoning work.
Board minutes do not specify the moratorium’s effective period or the exact regulatory changes the Planning Commission will recommend. The resolution, as adopted, directs the Planning Commission to study data-center uses and pauses approval actions related to new data-center development until the study and any resulting ordinance changes are completed.
Next steps recorded in the minutes: the Planning Commission will undertake the study of data-center uses as part of the ongoing IZO review; no date for a public hearing or final action on ordinances was provided in the meeting minutes.
