Clinton County outlines six chip-seal projects and re-gravel plans for Eagle Township in 2026

Doug Steffen, managing director of the Clinton County Road Commission, presented the Clinton County 2026 road-project list to the Eagle Township Board on Jan. 20, 2026. He said the county alternates chip sealing between the east and west sides and that Eagle Township is scheduled for six chip-seal projects in 2026.
Steffen told the board the county hopes to re-gravel two primary roads in the township—Howe Road (Grange to Clintonia) and State Road (Jones to Clintonia)—and that no culvert work is recommended for 2026. He also identified several subdivision roads that were last paved in 1991 and described them as in need of repaving. Steffen said he will provide the board with cost estimates and options for the proposed work.
A citizen asked when Cutler Road (between Wright Road and Bauer Road) was last re-graveled and whether it would be included this year; Steffen said that road is the responsibility of Westphalia Township and that he will discuss the matter with the Westphalia Board at an upcoming meeting.
The presentation did not include final cost figures; the Road Commission will return with cost estimates to inform any township budgeting decisions. The board took no vote on project approvals at the Jan. 20 meeting; the item was presented for information and planning.
