Councilman Harrington introduced Ordinance 13 to set adjusted millage rates for a public hearing on May 11, 2026, listing current rates (public safety 9.35 mills; general 6.57 mills). Councilman PT then introduced a companion ordinance to roll forward millage rates up to the prior-year maximum, which staff estimated could yield roughly $170,808 in additional revenue if the city chooses to roll forward.
Chief Wynne spoke in support of rolling forward the millage, saying the fire department depends on that revenue for equipment and building costs. Council discussed the mechanics of a roll-forward and the fact that the city had not rolled forward in the previous two years; members also discussed individual taxpayer impacts and homestead exemptions.
These ordinances were introduced for future action and will be considered in a public hearing on May 11.
