Councilman Nielsen (speaker 4) read Ordinance 12 of 2026, amending prior zoning to rezone a 1.56-acre parcel at 3600 University Parkway from R-2 to R-1 to facilitate development of a new fire station. Planning and Zoning recommended the rezoning at its March 7, 2026 meeting, and council members described the action as a technical necessity now that construction has started on the site.
"This is a formality, technicality," the mayor said as council moved and seconded adoption. A roll call vote followed and the motion carried.
The ordinance clears the zoning requirement so construction may continue; council did not amend conditions at the meeting.
