The Fletcher town manager told council Monday that FEMA meetings are underway to categorize storm damage projects and position the town to seek reimbursements for park and bridge repairs.
The manager said the priority work includes ball field grading and fencing, repairs to multi‑use courts (tennis/pickleball/basketball), the small dog park fence, and a bridge that received storm damage. "We've been meeting with FEMA, and we have to categorize the projects for the repairs like the ball field fencing and re‑leveling the ball fields," the manager said, adding that the town has had two FEMA meetings and is preparing bid documents and an engineering RFQ due Dec. 16.
On potential cost and reimbursement, the manager told council the project could be "about $750,000 to $1,000,000" when all work is considered and that "it's typically about 75%" reimbursement for eligible FEMA expenses. He said engineering services solicitations are being issued to seek reimbursement for engineering costs as FEMA allows.
Timing: the manager estimated the parks and ball fields could be substantially repaired by late summer 2025 if bidding and contracting proceed promptly, while the bridge repair is likely to take longer because of technical complexity.
Councilors asked about baseball and youth play schedules and urged staff to accelerate work where possible; the manager said the town is trying to move bidding and procurement along to let teams return to play as soon as feasible.
The report also noted the town is coordinating with county debris removal and that staff are encouraging residents to use the county's online debris form to help prioritize pickups.
