City planning staff described the project as a 20‑story building with 352 hotel units and an integrated parking garage with 528 spaces. Debbie Love of the Community Planning and Development department said the project is an "as of right" development within the Northwest 7th Avenue planned corridor and noted staff'recommended conditions including a six‑foot sidewalk along Northwest 6th Court and enhanced stormwater controls. "The project details are a 20 story, 352 unit hotel and convention center," Love said during the presentation.
David Sachs, speaking for the applicant, told the council the team supported staff'recommended conditions and said the developer would work with the city on community outreach and potential public uses of amenity spaces. "We agree with the staff recommendation recommending approval subject to the conditions set forth within the report," Sachs said. The project's architect, Alessandra Canedo, described ground‑floor design elements intended to encourage pedestrian activity and a rooftop and event space intended for hotel guests and potential rental as event space.
Council members asked about construction timing, local hiring and whether restaurant or event spaces would be open to the public. Staff and the applicant said they expect construction to begin as soon as permits are pulled. Debbie Love said approved projects have 18 months to obtain building permits and the code permits an additional six months administratively if needed. The applicant indicated openness to job fairs and working with local vendors but did not provide a definitive permanent job count at the hearing.
After discussion the council took a roll‑call vote. The motion to approve the site plan was made by Councilman Pierre Frantz Charles and seconded by Councilwoman Esta Mae Ervin. The mayor, Councilman Charles, Ervin and Councilman Kevin Burns voted yes and the motion carried 4–0.
Next steps include the applicant's permit applications and compliance with the conditions listed in the staff report; staff confirmed the sidewalk, landscaping and stormwater conditions will be enforced as part of permitting.
