Mayor Mary Parham Copeland presented a proclamation on Jan. 14 honoring Victor Young for 35 years of service with Baldwin County Fire Safety and Rescue and proclaimed Jan. 14, 2025 "Fire Chief Victor Young Day." Chief Young accepted the recognition and thanked council members and attendees for the honor.
Beverly Lindy Hill outlined a plan to display approximately 25 historical Black‑history banners in February honoring notable local figures; she said each banner sponsorship costs $100 and organizers will work with the city on bracket replacements, installation and logistics. Hill said the project drew interest beyond the county and that she is exploring a local Baldwin County exhibit in partnership with museum contacts.
City Manager Griffin noted the city had funded new banner brackets by a local welder and offered to coordinate with public works for installation. Council members thanked Hill and indicated staff would assist in logistics.
No formal council action was required to recognize Chief Young or to allow banner placement for the month of February, and council confirmed the city manager or designated staff may authorize details where appropriate.
