Medina County commissioners approve bridge replacement, sanitary projects, labor pacts and $2.37 million in claims

Colleen M. Swedyk, president of the Medina County Board of Commissioners, and Commissioner Stephen D. Hambley approved a bundle of resolutions at the board’s June 30 meeting that covered roadwork, sanitary engineering projects, personnel matters and county expenditures.
The board voted AYE on a resolution accepting and awarding the 2026 Replacement of Bridge No. 4 on Hartman Road in Wadsworth Township and on a companion resolution determining the necessity to close county roads for multiple road projects. County Engineer Administrative Assistant Dan Becker presented those items to the board.
Sanitary Engineer Jeremy Sinko presented three sanitary-related resolutions the board approved: authorizing a contract with Johnson Laux Construction of Ohio, LLC for professional design services for the Medina County Sanitary WWTP Chemical Feed Building Floor Grates Replacement Project via Equalis Group competitive bidding; authorizing the Sanitary Engineer to apply for and, if awarded, accept a Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) agreement to design Hinckley wastewater facilities, and designating a repayment source for that loan; and authorizing the Sanitary Engineer to request qualifications for professional design services for the Center Road water main installation project.
Planning Services Director Denise Testa presented a resolution authorizing the president of the board to execute a professional services agreement with Verdantas for an Ohio Department of Agriculture Land Use Planning Grant; that resolution also passed.
Human Resources Director Holly Muren presented four staffing and labor items that were approved, including personnel changes under the commissioners’ jurisdiction, an amendment to the Sanitary Engineering Department table of organization, and two three-year agreements between the Medina County Sheriff and the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, Inc., covering Communication Technicians and Corrections Corporals & Sergeants.
Finance Director Brett Thomas presented several finance items, including expenditure adjustments, a correction to create the Drug Task Force Ohio Drug Law Enforcement Fund with appropriations, amendments to grant appropriations, allowance of county officials’ expenses, and allowing claims and authorizing issuance upon the treasurer for a list of claims totaling $2,372,025.62. Mrs. Swedyk noted, jokingly, that the cost for Commissioner Aaron M. Harrison to attend a Northern Chamber event was $5 more than hers and Mr. Hambley’s due to the chamber’s pricing structure.
All motions were made by Commissioner Hambley and seconded by Mrs. Swedyk; roll-call votes recorded both commissioners present as voting AYE, and Mr. Harrison was recorded as unable to attend.
The board did not take public comment on these resolutions during the meeting and moved to its discussion session after completing formal business.
