Council approves consent agenda and appointments; amends appraisal-services resolution to include two firms under a $100,000 cap

Edison Township Council members voted Jan. 14 to adopt a consent agenda that included several appointments and reappointments to boards and departmental director positions and an amended professional-services resolution.
The council amended resolution 035, an authorization for professional appraisal services related to tax-court appeals, to include Real Property Analytics in addition to Integra Realty Resources. The attorney said the amendment did not increase the total not-to-exceed amount; rather, the two firms would share a combined $100,000 cap. The amendment was moved and added to the consent agenda.
Several former and current council members and residents spoke in support of the slate of appointments. John Pointer, a former council member, told the council he supported the appointments and noted a recent state statutory change that allows municipalities to appoint alternates to the Peter J. Barnes Preservation Commission. Margo Harris, whom the council appointed to the Cultural Arts Commission (resolution R17), urged the council to assign a council liaison so the commission can move forward on a long-delayed performing-arts venue and better use existing gallery space.
The council then voted to adopt the consent agenda by roll call. Council members present recorded affirmative votes; the clerk announced the resolutions being adopted, including the amended resolution 035 and multiple appointment resolutions (R16R26 and R41R47 as listed on the agenda). Councilors thanked staff and the appointees for their service.
The adopted consent agenda included reappointments and director appointments across departments (names and resolution numbers were read into the record). Several council members said they had reviewed the candidates and praised their qualifications. The council withheld a small group of resolutions for separate votes as listed on the agenda, and proceeded with the remainder of the consent agenda on a single roll-call vote.
The council did not discuss contract details beyond the amended structure of resolution 035; the attorney said the change preserves the same combined fiscal cap while allowing the township to use two firms that already perform related work.
