City presents education strategy and Long Beach College Promise ambassador program; council praises progress

City staff introduced Leonidas Sloan, the Education Strategy and Partnership Manager, to present an update on the city's Education Strategy and Partnership Action Plan. The presentation emphasized alignment between the city, K‑12 and higher education institutions and highlighted new and expanded partnerships and program activations. Sloan described the Long Beach College Promise Ambassador Program and invited student ambassadors to share their experiences.
Patrick Rosalan and Destiny Rodriguez, two program ambassadors, described how the College Promise connected them to higher education and career pathways; Rodriguez said outreach and early exposure changed her trajectory and led to an associate's degree and transfer to Cal State Long Beach.
Council members praised the plan, asked about measurable outcomes and stronger links to the city's Jobs Promise and port‑related career pathways, and requested continued coordination across LBUSD, LBCC and CSULB. The council received the presentation and commended staff for reestablishing events such as the College & Career Expo.
