Council holds hearing on airport zoning amendments to reduce side-yard setbacks

The Enumclaw City Council opened and closed a public hearing on Ordinance 28-37 at 7:07 p.m. on May 26, receiving a staff presentation and no public testimony.
Senior Planner Winston Larson presented the ordinance as an amendment to the Enumclaw municipal code to reduce minimum side-yard setbacks in the Airport Zoning District from 20 feet to 10 feet and to adjust one footnote regarding maximum permitted building height where the Airport Zoning District abuts residential districts (to permit structures up to 18 feet similar to accessory-structure heights). Larson explained the change implements aspects of the 2024 comprehensive plan and follows the planning commission's April 23 recommendation to approve the draft amendments.
Larson said options available to council are to adopt the ordinance as presented, reject and direct staff to continue review, or modify the ordinance and adopt as amended. Council opened the floor for questions and public input; no members of the public spoke, and the council closed the hearing and proceeded with first reading tasks.
The hearing did not result in a final vote on the ordinance; staff remains available to answer follow-up questions and to prepare any amendments the council may request.
