St. Louis County proclaims Telecommunicators Week and honors volunteer firefighters

An official thanked the Golden Volunteer Fire Department and several named members for responding professionally to a difficult death scene, saying that calls like that can have long-term emotional effects on volunteers and that the department's response "is what service looks like." The board asked the members to step forward for recognition.
The chair of the county's public safety committee read a proclamation honoring 9-1-1 telecommunicators, noting the St. Louis County sheriff's office emergency communications division answered 181,986 calls in 2025 and that the county's public-safety answering point in Duluth covers about 7,092 square miles and supports more than 180 public-safety agencies. Deputy Administrator Emily Bornigore thanked telecommunicators and said staff are marking the week with appreciation efforts, adding a training statistic that "about 2% of the population can perform the job of an emergency communications specialist."
