The Pottawattamie County Board approved the employment of Stevielyn Martin as the county’s finance and budget director, with a July 13 start date.
Jasmine Elmore, introduced on the agenda as director of human resources, told the board that Martin was selected after a review process involving department heads and elected officials. "Ultimately, you have chosen to select, Stevielyn Martin," Elmore said. Board members discussed onboarding steps, suggested sending Martin to other municipalities for exposure later in her tenure, and asked for a copy of the initial onboarding schedule.
A motion to approve the hiring was made and seconded; the board approved the employment by voice vote. HR staff and the auditor's office will manage the transition, which is timed to coincide with an upcoming retirement and internal promotions in the auditor’s office.
Separately, the auditor introduced Matt Walsh as assistant tax and finance officer; Walsh spoke about his background in commercial lending and municipal budgeting. The board welcomed him and discussed his role in the transition.
