Staff recommends transfer of surplus bus to Montgomery County Sheriff's Department; item presented for 1st reading

At the July 17 study session, district staff presented a resolution for first reading recommending transfer of a surplus bus to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for use in the workhouse/abatement inmate transport program.
Staff said the bus to be transferred was declared surplus on 08/27/2025 and that the Sheriff's Department's existing 28-year-old vehicle is "no longer sustainable," so the department has requested a later-model surplus bus. "So the 28 year old bus that they have currently been using is no longer sustainable. They have asked us for a use of a later model surplus vehicle," a staff presenter said.
The presenter explained the Sheriff's Department uses buses to transport inmates assigned to the workhouse abatement program, which allows participants to work off a portion of their sentence while contributing to community litter-collection efforts. Staff recommended the Board of Education approve the transfer; however, the transcript records only the presentation and recommendation (first reading) and does not show a motion, second or vote.
