At its July 7 meeting Middletown City Council approved four motion-agenda items and completed roll-call votes on multiple procurement and grant actions.
Key outcomes:
- 2027 tax budget: Council received, filed and adopted the 2027 tax budget as required by the Ohio Revised Code. Finance Director Samantha Zimmerman explained the city's current levy structure (6.9 mills total, 2.75 restricted) and estimated that 1 mill generates approximately $870,000; total estimated resources across all funds were roughly $6,000,000.
- Snowplow trucks: Council approved the purchase of two 2027 International snowplow trucks from Rush Truck Centers of Cincinnati for $518,298.06 for the streets and stormwater maintenance divisions.
- Drug Abuse Response Team grant: Council accepted a $42,635.84 grant from the Ohio Attorney General (no local match). City Manager Ashley Combs said $37,635.84 would cover police overtime for the Quick Response Team and $5,000 would fund outreach supplies; separate appropriation legislation is required to allocate the funds.
- Sewer-connection fee waiver: Council approved a recommended waiver of $35,000 in sewer connection fees for the Warren County Port Authority for infrastructure at the Renaissance Pointe arena and authorized the city manager to execute necessary agreements.
All four motion-agenda items were moved, seconded and passed on roll-call votes during the meeting.
