The Salem City Council approved a street-closure request from the Salem chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association and appointed James Taylor to the city's park board at its regular meeting.
Barbara Newell, who identified herself as vice president of the Salem chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association, asked the council to close streets around the courthouse for a bike show on Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with craft vendors and a possible bake sale. After brief clarification about whether the closure would encompass three or four sides of the square, a motion to approve the street closure passed by voice vote with all recorded aldermen voting yes.
The council also moved on an appointment the park board had recommended: the nomination of James Taylor to fill a vacant park-board seat. A council member moved to approve the nomination, a second was recorded, and the appointment passed unanimously.
Both items were noncontroversial and advanced on routine motions. The chair thanked the presenters and the meeting proceeded to subsequent agenda items.
