The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority heard a director's report detailing plans for the upcoming market and festival season and an expanded after-school program.
The Director said the authority is "in our major planning phase" and that vendor and festival applications are "live, and they're coming in hot" for both the market and festival events. The authority has hired Corinne as a full-time events coordinator to manage vendor outreach and refine programming, the Director added.
The Director proposed an after-school partnership with the CAPS program and the police department to operate Monday through Thursday as an expanded youth program offering sports, homework help and arts activities. The program will target middle- and high-school students but will remain open to younger participants; the Director said the intention is to "give the kids somewhere to go" and to pair police and fire volunteers with staff for mentorship. The Director indicated a tentative start in March and described session times in the meeting as "03:00 to about 5."
Officials discussed scheduling around the planned festival park work. The Director said park work is being discussed with a tentative construction timeline near Sept. 1, which would allow the market season to run through August as in past years. Vendors have already begun sending payments and applications despite some items still awaiting final approval, the Director said.
Board members asked about complaints and vendor feedback; the Director said turnout has been positive and that staff will conduct follow-ups to see "what works and what doesn't." The report noted recent successful events, including a sold-out Valentine's dinner and a well-attended Nerf event for children.
The meeting materials did not include a vote or new funding for the youth program; board action will be required before any program expenditures or formal commitments are final.
