At its April 8 meeting, the Montague Township Committee approved multiple service and capital contracts and rejected bids for a sprinkler installation at the Community Center.
Contracts awarded: • Lawn maintenance: The Committee approved awarding the 2025 lawn maintenance contract to Wally Costa (Montague) for $12,000 to service enumerated municipal properties, recorded as Resolution 2025‑049. • Town‑wide clean‑up hauling: Two haulers submitted quotes; Jefferson Recycling was awarded the contract without the optional door‑to‑door collection to limit cost uncertainty related to per‑tire pricing. The award was recorded as Resolution 2025‑050. • Spring shredding: SK Paper Shred was awarded the shredding contract for a three‑hour session at $1,000; Clerk Klinger said the activity is funded through the Clean Communities Grant. • Zitone Ballfield rehabilitation: The Committee accepted the low bid from Sports Field Services, LLC ($12,980) to rehabilitate infield and install dual pitching mounds, reposition bases for different levels of play, re‑cut base running paths, and place 50 tons of clay; recorded as Resolution 2025‑046.
A separate action, Resolution 2025‑045, rejected all RFP submissions for installation of a sprinkler system at the Montague Firehouse/Community Center. That resolution passed 3–1 with Ms. Holstein voting no. Ms. Holstein subsequently advocated bringing a ballot question to voters about the sprinkler system and related kitchen work.
Clerk Klinger performed roll calls for the motions and recorded the approvals. Departments identified to carry out contractual coordination include DPW (grounds and cleanup coordination) and Recreation (shredding and ballfield scheduling). Next steps include executing contracts and coordinating schedules with vendors.
