Montague committee adopts budget and service measures, expands sheriff patrols and approves telecom lease amendment

The Committee also introduced Ordinance 2025-06 to add an "Excessive Vehicle Noise" article to Chapter 70 (Vehicles and Traffic) and Ordinance 2025-07 to join the Frankford Joint Municipal Court; both ordinances were approved on introduction by unanimous roll-call votes. Attorney Rossmeissl noted the township has limited jurisdiction over county roads and said enforcement on county roads would require county consent.
Resolutions and contracts
The Committee passed multiple roll-call resolutions: - Resolution 2025-034: renewed service agreement with the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and increased the patrol budget from $12,000 to $16,000 annually to expand coverage to roughly 20 hours per month; motion passed unanimously. - Resolution 2025-035: approved a contract with Millennium Strategies for access to a grant-portal platform and project support; Ms. Holstein told the public Millennium had brought $222,000 to the township. Motion passed unanimously. - Resolution 2025-038: approved an amendment to the site lease with Diamond Towers IV LLC to permit relocation/upgrades of Sussex County 9-1-1 dispatch equipment on the municipal building tower; attorney clarified the township sold its lease interest and is a third-party signatory. Motion passed unanimously. - Resolutions 2025-036, 2025-037 (lien redemptions), 2025-039 (Montague Day rentals to Tri-State Rentals, $1,690), 2025-040 (fixing salaries for 2025), and 2025-041 (shared services amendment with Sussex Borough) were all approved by unanimous roll-call votes.
Officials noted the potential to supplement Sheriff patrols with State Police assistance for targeted enforcement.
