PSD discusses replacing M‑37 street trees and concerns about sidewalk snow removal

At the Sept. 10 meeting of the Principal Shopping District board, City Manager Jon Schneider told members that the pear trees planted along sidewalks on M‑37 will need gradual replacement because roots are damaging sidewalks.
Schneider asked for board input on replacement species and said the city plans to replace a few trees each year. Several board members expressed a preference for keeping pear trees in some locations. The board also raised concerns that the Department of Public Works appeared to be doing less sidewalk snow removal than in previous years; Schneider suggested contacting Ron at the DPW to follow up on routing and expectations.
Rachael Porter of the River Country Chamber of Commerce noted the rise in downtown foot traffic, citing a recent seniors' bus trip to the museum and the Chamber's use of influencers to promote county destinations, which members said could influence tree and sidewalk planning decisions.
