Rachael Porter, representing the River Country Chamber of Commerce, said the "Newaygo Logging Festival was very successful" and that the Chamber had received a $3,700 quote to decorate the tree, but that the Chamber could not fund that price. Board members discussed soliciting additional quotes, purchasing smaller trees for schoolchildren to decorate, and asking downtown businesses to adopt or donate toward decorations. Chair Cooper and Trustee Slominski agreed to work together on ordering sample lights to evaluate options.
Recording Secretary Kim Goodin later sent an email to the board clarifying that prior discussions referenced stringing lights on light posts rather than wrapping trees; the board debated both approaches and directed members to explore lower-cost alternatives. No funding commitment was made at the meeting.
