Kyrene board accepts FY25 audits and receives clean opinions from auditors

The Kyrene Elementary District Governing Board voted to accept the district's FY25 audit reports and compliance reviews after a presentation from audit partner Britney Williams of Heinfeld Meach & Company and introductory remarks from Finance Director Brian Lochery.
Williams summarized the audit results and told the board the auditors issued unmodified (clean) opinions on the financial statements and on the federal awards they tested, and she said the single-audit synopsis showed no findings for the two federal programs selected (Child Nutrition Cluster and Title I). "We issued an unmodified opinion on the financial statements, which is a clean opinion. We had no findings," Williams said.
Auditors also noted a change in GASB reporting this year that required re-evaluating compensated absences; Williams and staff said that change added roughly $1 million of liability to the FY25 statements and will be steady going forward. Finance Director Brian Lochery said audit-related documents were provided in the board packet and are available on the district website.
By roll call the board accepted: the FY25 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR); the FY25 Single Audit Reporting Package; the FY25 USFR compliance questionnaire; the Kyrene employee benefits trust financial statements; the Arizona Department of Education administrative review of seamless summer food service (which yielded zero findings); and the Medicaid school-based claiming compliance review. Each vote recorded four "ayes" and the motions passed 4-0.
Board members and staff said they would follow any procedural recommendations from audits and continue to share electronic copies of reports with governing-board members and district leadership.
