Candidates introduce campaigns as council honors local school teams and announces community events

The council presented awards to Pineapple High School’s girls and boys soccer teams for winning district championships, honored Pinewood Junior High’s 7th-grade baseball team for an undefeated season, and acknowledged Powell Junior High’s historic 8th-grade season. Presenters congratulated the teams and invited the public to a reception with cake in the hallway.
In a separate portion of the meeting local residents introduced themselves as candidates for city offices. Samantha Stanley introduced herself as a candidate for City Council District 5; Hugh Hall said he is running for District 3; Chris Camp identified himself as a mayoral candidate; Celeste Mobley announced a run for District 4; Peter Ford and Greg Aaron introduced bids for Districts 3 and 1 respectively. Each candidate gave brief remarks and provided contact or social-media information.
Council members also announced community events: Cody Ford’s first annual spring fling will be held April 25 from 3–7 p.m. at the Red River flagpole (family activities noted), and the city’s “Love the Boot” cleanup includes a volunteer meeting at City Hall at 9 a.m. on April 25 to clean areas near major retail centers.
The meeting then returned to regular business and adjourned.
