Public Works says Well 13 intermittently pumps air into mains; staff to return with fix

Anthony Chavarria of Public Works told the council that the city’s water department has experienced episodes where Well 13 "breaks suction," which allows entrained air to be pumped into the water distribution system and produce turbid, milky water.
"That means that, the well does occasionally pump air into the water mains," Chavarria said, describing the phenomenon and noting that the turbidity clears if customers let the water sit.
Public Works is working with the engineering team to gather data and analyze the problem. Chavarria said staff will return to the council with a staff report and a resolution recommending corrective measures as soon as possible. Council members had no substantive questions beyond requesting a report and timetable for remedies.
No immediate boil‑water order or public‑safety advisory was announced at the meeting; staff described the calls as turbidity from entrained air rather than contamination.
