Albert Lea council approves Broadway Ridge grant, EV fire command vehicle and donations; approves claims

On July 28 the Albert Lea City Council approved multiple resolutions including a grant reimbursement under the Broadway Ridge program, purchase of an electric fire command vehicle, acceptance of donations, and approval of presented claims.
SRFD Enterprise LLC’s application for Broadway Ridge assistance was approved for reimbursement of up to 50% of $80,249.93 in eligible improvements (matching grant $40,124.97). Staff reported all improvements were completed and compliant with building and zoning review and recommended approval; the council adopted the resolution.
The council also approved the purchase of a 2026 Rivian R1S electric command vehicle to replace a 2015 Ford F-150 command vehicle. The purchase price from state bid is $88,690; upfitting by Alta Emergency Response Vehicles was listed at $23,810, for budgeted CIP line item totaling about $112,500. Fire Chief Leszewski said the vehicle will include the large battery option (approximately 310–320 mile range), level‑2 and mobile chargers, and an emergency lighting/command module.
Council accepted donations as submitted, including $300 from the Alden Area Activities Association to police reserves for the Warren Lake parade. The council reviewed and approved multiple high-dollar claims and payment estimates, including contractor payments and TIF disbursements (examples in the staff report included Jensen Excavating $283,417.89; Bridal Construction $255,174.75; Inbuilt LLC $599,449.05). The claims resolution passed.
