Warrens officials say DOT will decide Zeda Street funding by Dec. 20; village prepares next steps

The Village of Warrens Board of Trustees was told Dec. 10 that the Department of Transportation will decide whether to fund the Zeda Street project by Dec. 20, 2024.
During Department of Public Works updates, staff reported that Brian appealed DOT’s earlier decision not to fund the village’s Zeda Street project. If DOT denies the appeal, the trustees were advised the village may reallocate those earmarked funds to another local project within five years.
Trustee Pete Malinger offered to contact Nancy Vandermeer to “get the ball rolling” on alternative steps should the DOT deny the appeal, and board members discussed preparing a contingency plan. The board recorded plans to pursue quotes and financing for other infrastructure items pending the DOT outcome.
The DOT deadline and the village’s appeal timetable were the most time-sensitive items discussed; the board did not take a formal vote on the project during the Dec. 10 meeting. The trustees said they will await the DOT decision before advancing funding or scheduling a public hearing on alternatives.
