Board approves food-service award, shortens resubmission window to three months and accepts budget amendments

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees approved several formal actions at its April 23 meeting.

Administrators recommended awarding RFP 2603-01 for food-service management to Whitson's Culinary Group, contingent on final approval from the Texas Department of Agriculture. Administration reported four vendor responses and said the Texas Department of Agriculture reviewed the procurement template and will vet the proposed contract. An administrator who answered trustees' questions about evaluation criteria said price, reputation, capacity to serve the district and vendor financial condition were key factors, and the evaluation committee had sampled food from all vendors.

Trustees moved and approved revisions to local policy BE that shorten the window preventing resubmission of an item from six months to three months. A trustee who proposed the change argued a shorter window avoids unnecessary delay for matters that need swifter action; the board voted in favor of the amendment by voice vote.

Board members also took up budget amendments that had been pulled from the consent agenda. Trustees clarified that some line-item increases (including legal expense lines) reflected reclassification between GL codes rather than new funding requests; administration said the district anticipates some legal expenses may exceed previously budgeted amounts because of ongoing district business. The board approved the budget amendments by voice vote.

Following an executive-session deliberation, the board moved to propose the nonrenewal of the term contract of teacher Nicole Navarete and directed the superintendent to provide notice to the employee; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
