Residents press board on Cranberry Festival vendor setup and cell-tower removal; trustees make no change to setup plan

A resident asked whether vendor booths that begin setting up on Market Street up to three days before the Cranberry Festival should be left in the street, citing potential traffic-blocking, theft and safety risks. The board responded that staged, staggered setup across the week is considered safer than all vendors setting up at once; minutes record that vendors are placed at the edge of Market Street and are not impeding traffic, and the board made no change to the current practice.
Treasurer/acting clerk Nicki Zellmer and President Jason Krultz discussed permitting, noting that an event transient merchant permit is required for vendors at events; Krultz said he would follow up with Bear Bogging and Zellmer would provide information to Scenic Bluffs. The board also discussed what qualifies as a "large scale" event and the steps required for approvals.
Deana Donaldson reported that cell towers had been turned off but not yet taken down following Hurricane Helene because of staffing shortages affecting service work; the minutes note this is not normal practice.
A wedding request to remain in the log building after midnight for Oct. 4, 2025 was tabled while clerk/treasurer checks state guidance on late-night permissions. The board declined a village sponsorship request from the Limited Show Choir but said signage could be made available for voluntary public donations.
Next steps: staff will follow up on transient merchant permit requirements and the late-night wedding request; the planning and zoning committee will also be notified of rezoning signatures submitted by a resident.
