Planning committee to draft board visioning and commitment surveys after April election

The Watertown Unified School District planning committee agreed to develop two governance-focused surveys for board members: a visioning questionnaire to gather incoming and continuing members’ objectives after the April election, and a later "board commitment" survey modeled on 360-degree feedback.

Chair opened the segment explaining the visioning survey would be delivered to the entire board in April after the election to identify shared goals. "If we can find goals that are aligned, then we can strategically start focusing on those," the Chair said. The committee discussed a timeline to have draft results ready for a full planning discussion in May or June.

Volunteers — Dan, Jolene and Linda — were named to draft the two surveys and will coordinate with Jason. The subgroup will prepare draft questions, return them to the planning committee for review and decide whether the instruments should go to the full board for consideration or remain within the committee for approval. Committee members noted that subgroup meetings involving three members will likely need to be posted publicly under open-meeting rules.

Members also agreed to add a March agenda item to discuss board professional development and to explore a shared calendar for board events; staff will check with the calendar manager before implementing shared access.
