Ryan, a district staff member, updated the board on construction and planning work tied to the elementary and high school projects and on benefits self‑insurance work.
On construction, Ryan said the high school has been visiting regional CTE and FACS facilities (including Wauwatosa East, Cedarburg and others) as part of planning; staff will send outreach letters to about 60–65 local businesses to identify partners and vendors. He said a community task force held an initial meeting and another community meeting is planned for later in February; geotechnical investigations are underway and a secondary schematic design for the elementary school is expected in the next couple of weeks.
Ryan also said the district has begun interviews with insurance firms to evaluate moving to self‑insurance for employee benefits. He cautioned that self‑insurance would be a multi‑stage process requiring funding and planning and that additional interviews with other firms are planned before any decision.
On another community topic, Ryan said he has been discussing a proposed wall of honor at the high school and will meet with a community member to develop a clear process that avoids omissions or hurt feelings before any commitment is made.
Board members did not take formal action on construction or insurance at this meeting; staff said further discussions and board development sessions will follow.
