The Watertown Unified School District HR Committee met Jan. 19 and heard that retention for special-education paraprofessionals has been a challenge this year, but that openings have been reduced to "maybe 1" after recent hiring activity, a district staff member said.
The statement came during review of the consent agenda, when a committee member asked for clarification on staffing levels. The staff member said the number of openings is variable and that some vacancies reflected newly created positions tied to identified needs. "I just put an offer out to 1 and I think we are down to maybe 1," the Staff member said.
Committee members did not request further action beyond routine consent-agenda processing. No members of the public spoke during the meeting’s public-comment period, the Chair said.
The discussion underscores ongoing personnel pressures in special-education support roles; committee members asked questions but did not direct additional staff action during the meeting. The HR Committee adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
