The West Salem School District board handled routine business items, approved personnel recommendations for co-curricular activities and recessed into closed session on a confidential student matter.
On the consent agenda, the board approved minutes, invoices, co-curricular recommendations and several donations read into the record (including a Bosch rotary laser valued at $630 to the high-school woods program, a $3,500 in-kind labor donation for a trailer retrofit, and various art-supply donations). The consent agenda was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board approved a request to add two additional middle-school OM coaching positions to meet student interest (38 students expected); the request specified a compensation increment of 1.5% for the two additional coach slots. The motion to approve was moved and seconded and carried on voice vote.
On policy matters, board members identified grammatical errors and redundant addendums in Volume 33 policies and agreed to send the section back for revision; the superintendent said the item would return for second reading on December 9.
Finally, the board voted to go into closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(a) to deliberate a student-specific case, including possible revocation of open enrollment status and review of confidential pupil records. The board recessed and then entered closed session after a voice vote.
